This CSA has a simple message for older people – recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of every young person, particularly your own children. They may have differing expectations for their lives than those that you believe would be best for them. Nonetheless, they are entitled to the free expression of their own beliefs and feelings without being made to feel less than who they are. “I can’t be what you want me to be” is the lament of every young person in conflict with his or her parents. It is we, as adults, who have to let go of our children and let them become who they are destined to become.
