ACRO is an Australian National Social Justice Organisation established in 1962. It is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation. It receives the financial support of all levels of government and corporate sponsorship. Its core Staff who have significant expertise in the field of crime prevention, work closely with local partners - the police, government, corrective services, housing authorities, schools, businesses and other community organisations - to work towards the reduction of crime and the creation of a safer community. ACRO is registered with the Australian Securities Commission (ARBN 066 875 107), is incorporated in Queensland under the Associations Incorporation Act (#10000) and is registered as a charity under the Collections Act (#472). ACRO has a membership of individuals and corporate entities from across Australia. Its Patron is His Excellency the Governor of Queensland, Major General Peter Arnison AO.
ACRO is a social justice organisation committed to the development of a safe and caring society.
ACRO will achieve its Mission if it:
- researches, develops and implements in consultation with and for the community, community safety initiatives;
- becomes a recognised expert organisation in the development communication implementation and evaluation of community safety initiatives;
- provides services for individuals and groups in the community (which enhance public safety);
- is accepted within the community as a legitimate advocate on community safety issues.
The core values of the Organisation are the fundamental beliefs that govern decision-making processes. ACRO's values are that:
- Every person has intrinsic worth and the right to be treated with dignity, equity, fairness and compassion
- Every person has the potential to become a responsible citizen
- Every person has the right to live in a safe and peaceful society and a responsibility implied by this right to respect the law.
- Every person has a corresponding responsibility to reflect positively, influence and uphold social justice principles and the law.
- Justice is best served through measures that resolve conflict, repair harm and restore peaceful relations in society.
