ACRO has existed for over half a century and during that time it has enjoyed the financial patronage of successive governments, businesses, individuals and benefactors. It is an organisation that has applied these funds in the augmentation of government policy, the advancement of proactive services for disadvantaged people and advocacy for those unable to speak for themselves.​

It has engaged in criminal justice reform, welfare support and reform, crime prevention initiatives, job creation initiatives, housing initiatives, refugee and migrant support, programs for young people and innovations for older citizens. It is non-partisan and non-sectarian.
